When you buy a house or move into an apartment, you don’t leave things how they are. You add flare, decorate the walls, and even rearrange the floor plan, if possible. It’s accepted that you’ll do this, so why wouldn’t you do the same with your Airstream trailer? You can remodel and renovate your Airstream to look exactly how you want it to look before your next trip, or maybe even before you permanently move into your tiny home. Check out some of our tips for approaching this task and then stop by Airstream of Montana so we can answer any other questions you might still have. We’re in Missoula, near Bozeman and Kalispell.
Think Realistically
Renovating can be a pretty monumental task. Even if you’re going to enjoy every moment of it, it’ll still probably take some time to finish. Along the way, you might run into challenges you’ve never encountered before. When this happens, be honest with yourself about what you can and can’t (or shouldn’t) do. Some projects might make for a fun learning experience and others should probably be handled by a professional. This may include electrical issues, plumbing, or structural changes. If you’re not sure about how to proceed, consider explaining your situation to one of our technicians and seeing what they recommend.
Ask About The Camper
As you’re looking around for an Airstream RV to renovate, you’ll need a full history of the model you’re looking at. If it’s a brand new model, there’s probably not much to learn, but a used model will have more history to it. You’ll want to know what kind of maintenance and repairs have already taken place so you aren’t surprised by anything you find.
Making The Plan
Before getting started, you’ll want to plan out what you intend to do to the trailer. There’s nothing worse than getting started and then realizing you don’t like the way things are turning out and having to backtrack. Having a plan can help with this. Of course, you’ll first want to take note of any areas that must be fixed, where you might see damage or wear and tear. Then take note of the areas that you simply don’t like and want to change. These areas can help guide your overall plan.
Once you’ve made note of what you have, you’ll want to think about where you want to go with all this. Some people like to return older models to their former glory. Others like to reimagine the interior to create something new and fresh. Whatever you decide, having that guide can be incredibly helpful in figuring out where to start and what to do next when one task is complete.
Painting
If you’re looking for some simple ways to spruce up the interior of your Airstream, consider simply applying a fresh coat of paint. Stick with the standard colors or go for something more colorful. You can stencil in other colors or even apply wallpaper. Sprucing up your walls can instantly transform your Airstream camper.
Furniture
Your Airstream comes with its own furniture, but you don’t have to keep that furniture. You can switch out some chairs or cover the couch with a bright fitted sheet. Just remember that RV furniture needs to be bolted into the floor so it doesn’t roll around in transit, and it also needs to be able to fit through the front door.
We love the interior of Airstream campers, but we know they’re not for everyone, and one of our favorite things is to see pictures of some of the finished products. Stop by Airstream of Montana to show us what you come up with, or to check out our campers for sale. We proudly serve Missoula, Bozeman, and Kalispell.
