If you’re want a new motorhome for your family, you’ve already made the right choice. You can probably already imagine all the amazing memories you’ll have when adventuring in one of these motorized homes on wheels, but there are also a few things you’ll need to consider. Choosing just the right Airstream RV can be a tricky task, especially if it’s your first time buying one. With so many different sizes to choose from, various options and amenities, and the potential sleeping space, you’ll need to narrow down your choices by first deciding what will fit your needs, while still remaining realistic. We’d like to talk a little more about this process, so read on, then feel free to come view our motorhomes and other units at Airstream of Montana – Bretz in Missoula, MT.
Different Sizes
Size is obviously the first part that you’ll think of. This is the best way to narrow your choices down to a third of possible motorhomes out there, since there are, in fact, only three different class sizes. Deciding between these three then is a matter of comparing your needs for space against your towing experience and budget.
Class A
The largest of the bunch is the Class A motorhome. Capable of carrying large families, along with their friends, you can enjoy virtually limitless camping in one of these larger models. They carry as many furnishings as some small homes, and the extra size means you’ll never feel cramped. However, a Class A isn’t the best choice for a brand new RVer. Unless you have experience driving a bus, there’s a huge learning curve to get over when operating these enormous vehicles. For new owners, we recommend starting with a small unit before you try tackling one of these gargantuans.
Class B
The most compact motorhome you’ll find out there is called the Class B design. These are constructed on commercial van chassis, so they’re not much bigger than a full-size pickup truck. While you might worry that they’re a little too compact, good RV manufacturers are very good at utilizing space effectively in Class B motorhomes. On top of that, they’re also very easy to drive, especially compared to Class A models. These compact units are perfect for couples or small families.
Class C
It’s the happy medium between a Class A and Class B motorhome: the Class C doesn’t have the bulkiness of a Class A, but it’s much more spacious the miniature Class B. Built on an industrial truck chassis, a Class C motorhome can fit plenty of people comfortably, they come with pretty impressive features and appliances, and you won’t have too much trouble driving them, either. If you have a family of about five to ten people, or if you have a small group and just want some extra space, these are probably the best choice for you.
Beds
Sleeping space basically goes hand-in-hand with size, but there are a few options in each motorhome class. You should try to find a unit that carries one or two extra beds, so if anyone in your family ever wants to bring a friend, they’ll have a place to stay.
Features and Amenities
After picking the size you want, you can start getting into more specifics. A motorhome is a pretty big investment, so don’t settle for something that doesn’t have the amenities you’re looking for. If you need a TV, large refrigerator, and nice bathroom, put it on your list so you can look for the model that best fits those needs. If you prefer less elaborate designs, on the other hand, figure out a list of the basic needs, and you won’t have any problem finding the unit that’s right for you!
This brief guide just covers the basics, but with a few of these tips, you should be more comfortable deciding on a motorhome that’ll suit you best. Remember that the point of having an RV is to enjoy yourself, so that should be factored into every single part of your decision process.
