For those of us who love our RV lifestyle, if there’s one thing we could change, it would be the amount of storage space we get. While you may have to live a more minimalist lifestyle in an RV, it doesn’t mean you have to give up everything you truly like or need.
At Airstream of Montana, we love being able to help our customers get the most out of their RVs. With that in mind, we’ve compiled this guide to help you maximize your camper’s storage capacity. If you’d like more information or you’re looking to get the right RV for you and your family, visit our dealership in Missoula, Montana.
Living Space
If you don’t keep a lid on things here, you could end up with clutter and constantly misplacing important things. To start, get a couple of ottomans. They’re great for storing things as well as for utility. There are some collapsable ones that can be put away when not needed. Another way to maximize space it to use as much of it as you can. You can install racks or hooks on the inside and outside of cabinet doors to store smaller items. You can get velcro strips to hang your remotes and install holders for flashlights, air freshener cans, etc. Use a key hanger like the ones at home to keep your keys and sunglasses easily accessible. Get a swivel drawer for pens, phones, etc.
Bedroom
Another space in your RV that’s prone to clutter and mess is the bedroom. Reduce this clutter by ensuring that each item has its own space. You can get a caddy organizer to hang beside your bed and keep all the small things you need. To maximize your closet storage, you can get hooks for your hangers to store caps, ties, undergarments, socks, etc. You can also watch videos on how to fold and organize your clothes so they take up less space. If you’re the creative kind, you can make a headboard that has some pockets for storage. This way, you’ll get a headboard of the size and color you want as well as one that’s useful. You can also get a wall-mounted clothes hanger that can be folded when not in use.
Kitchen
Get plastic storage containers for your kitchen shelves and use them to sort and store your food items better. You can even get plastic dividers for your drawers. There are under-the-shelf baskets that can be placed in cabinets that don’t have tall items. Get plenty of wall hooks so you can hang most utensils and other odds and ends. Shelves that have hooks on the side are also very useful. Collapsible tea kettles and pots as well as stackable bowls are perfect for an RV lifestyle. Use over-the-door trash baskets in your RV wherever possible as they reduce space and are easier to use. For your fruits and vegetables, get sturdy hanging baskets or hammocks. If you nail the lids of your jars to the top part of a shelf, you can screw the jars on and ‘hang’ them up.
Bathroom
This is a space that gets cluttered even in brick-and-mortar homes, so special care is needed to keep it clean and roomy in an RV. For your laundry needs, get a collapsable laundry tub or a pop-up mesh hamper. Wall-mounted organizers are great for keeping toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes, shavers, combs and brushes. If you’ve got a cabinet in your bathroom, place an over-the-cabinet holder or a wall-mounted storage container on the inside door. A hanging cloth organizer is also great for storing towels, extra toiletries, etc. You can get shampoo and conditioner dispensers installed to keep your cabinet clutter-free. As usual, placing plenty of hooks on the walls will give you space to hang clothes, jewelry, loofahs, etc.
